as Christian soldiers try to rape and kill the local townspeople almost as soon as the town appears in the middle of Germany during the 30 Years War.

The the main hero is a Union Democrat. The local scrooge is a Republican Pittsburgh capitalist. Go figure that.

1632 is now a sf series - think tons of regular books and fan fiction galore...Eric Flint started it years ago.
