(6,366 posts)competent Ottoman Sultan who ruled for 33 years. The show has 154 episodes between 2 1/2 - 3 hours each. It is riveting tv and as well done or better than most American shows. I would compare it to The Crown. Anyway. I have very little knowledge of this time period leading up to WWI but the show portrayals Sultan Abdulhamid II as a genius political statesman who was a moral rock who worked tirelessly against the West attempts to depose him in an effort to control his petroleum fields. Watching is very frustrating because while he attempts to rule with justice and fairness to all nationalities and religions, the newspapers promoted by the West were full of lies and fake news. Its like the Fox News of its day. Nothing ever changes. If anyone is interested in watching these shows there are a bunch of them found online. Hundreds of 2-3 hour no commercials episodes that tell the story of The Ottoman Empire from its founding as a tribe the creation of the empire. Its online at kayifamilytv.com , Netflix has many episodes called Magnificent Century which beautifully cover Süleyman the Magnificent, Ertrugral, Osman, and Alparson. Its subtitled but easy. Probably a years worth of great tv.
