(62 posts)Just shrug as Putin advances through Ukraine and then onto the Baltic states and eventually into Poland.
Not our problem I guess.
It's an unfortunate mentality that inflicts a lot in the United States. Being a country completely isolated (beyond just Mexico and Canada), we have the luxury to just shrug our shoulders at these events. Only two times have we ever faced 1/10th of the carnage Europe has faced over the last 100 years - Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Neither impacted a great deal of the country, though (at least in terms of actual assault).
European countries never have the luxury of just shrugging at the advances of power-hungry goons like Putin. They're too close to the action to be indifferent.
The United States? We're not.
It took Pearl Harbor to draw enough support from Americans to fight World War II. Most Americans would soon let the world burn just as long as it doesn't impact their sports and fast food.
