82. One of my favorite vets once said that we bring our animals...

...into our lives knowing full well that we will likely outlive them, but we do it anyway, because life is so much better with them in it.

The poignant words, "Grief is love with nowhere to go," describes so perfectly how it feels, and is very similar to what I have often said - "Love with nothing to attach to." It is why I, oftener than not, welcome a new cat into the family very soon after having had to say goodbye to an former cat.

I always think and speak of them as successors, not replacements. The same vet said that offering a loving homw to a new cat is a lovely way to honor the predecessor.

Chairman Meow was obviously well and deeply loved.
