My reply is regarding the threat specifically to New Balance from China and Viet Nam if the Trans Pacific Partnership gets passed and footwear tarriffs are removed. Maine Democratic Reps. Sharon Treat and Jeff McCabe speak to this in the linked to article. I don't believe that is changing the subject.
I do buy American, my boots and clothes from Carhartt. As far as New Balance not costing more than alternatives, without the footwear tariffs now in place Viet Nam will sell shoes here for much cheaper than New Balance. They can do this because of virtually no labor laws in their country.

They have a wide toe box and widths up to an amazing level. Very comfortable shoes, I love them. nt
