3. Brutality begets brutality in response...

I honestly think that at first Ukrainians wanted to blame the Russian "government" and not the "people."

But when you see your country being systematically destroyed, it becomes harder and harder not to take it out on the ones actually pulling the trigger. "Governments" and even Putin are abstract. Russian soldiers committing war crimes are immediate and in their faces. This has a real WWII with updated weapons vibe to it. The longer it goes on, the more brutal it gets.
