were extremely devout and in government to push various religious agendas, to great effect. AG Barr and Pompeo, many others appointed at various levels. Pence. A large number of his federal judicial appointments have been of RW religious extremists, including to SCOTUS. Not that this doesn't happen whenever Republicans have the power, but it was accelerated under tRump, who was their tool even more than whatever he was to Putin.
