was taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945, moments after his iconic flag raising photo. The six men who raised the second flag appear in this picture; Ira Hayes is seated at the far left.

This is not a “victory photo.” The battle of Iwo Jima would continue to rage for more than a month before the island was secured.

Thanks for pointing that out. Upon further review, I see that he has not made the claim that mahatmakanejeeves Mar 2022 #2
