There was a lot of weight behind that slap.... No watering of the eyes, no discoloration in the cheek... recovery from Rock was immediate. Rock didn't act surprised.... Smith smirked as he turned around and had the look of someone who wasn't pissed... I think it was scripted, but Smith ad-libbed the cursing part and that is what drew silence and that is what the Academy is trying to address..... how they handle the messaging and aftermath.

Smith's wife did not look super pissed... she rolled her eyes.... Will Smith was initially laughing.... Rock didn't press charges....

I think it all adds up to a staged event.
