7. Inflation

it's the economy, and when people see tangible things like gas and food prices, rents and whatnot go up, they blame the government, and that means they blame the folks in charge.

Most people don't care about the other stuff...that only generates base turnout...the small fickle clump that decides a lot of our elections are the ones that vote how they feel on election day, and unless there is a minor economic miracle, they aren't going to feel great.

Of course, the counter to that is in 2024, the Republicans will have run the House and possibly the Senate, and gotten zero done or proposed or fixed, so the pendulum swings back towards us, particularly if Trump runs again.

None of this is surprising.
