(7,654 posts)nothing wrong, you just assume people pay closer attention to details than they do.
They see inflation, they blame the party in power, doesn't matter if it's "organic" or caused by external forces, because most people aren't paying attention to that and when someone tries to explain they just view it as an excuse.
They can't stop corporations, they can vote out the party in power.
We've ping ponged back and forth almost like clockwork for the vast majority of my lifetime and longer than that really, except for a period of time when Dems held the House for a significant period of time, but that's looking more like an anomaly now. The pattern is one party wins the white house and one or both houses of congress, then the other party wins one or both houses of congress, then usually, the president wins re-election and maybe one of the houses of congress, then loses both houses again, then the party out of power wins the white house and one or both houses of congress and the pattern repeats.
It's not perfect of course...Bush was a one term President along with Trump but the former had a recession and he had already broken the pattern as a third term of Reagan so the country was VERY ready to switch back to the other party again, and the latter was, well, Trump (and also had a mini recession with COVID).
But it's a fairly consistent pattern, and I propose it's mostly because there's a core group of voters who just vote the party in power out of power on a routine basis while those who identify with each party more or less split the vote.
It's not always this way every single time, but I propose to you it happens fairly often, and I suspect we see it happen again in 2022, because their side is motivated, and even if our side is as well, it cancels out and you are left with the folks who will vote out the party in power because that's what they usually do.
Inflation will give them ample reason to and they aren't going to care that it's not "organic."
