(1,107 posts)Plenty of people mistakenly believe that their "kitchen table economics" are the most important issue. Same as they believe that gun control or abortion rights or illegal immigration strategy are important issues.
Reality is that NONE of those things are important in the long run. They will all be completely irrelevant if and when Donald Trump or his successor retake the White House, and finish the job of destroying our Constitution and the rule of law, and forever undo our free election system in order to steal our most fundamental right.
Fact is, Biden will likely lose if this comes down to "kitchen table economics" as you say. There is little he can do to offset the effect of inflation, just as Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan couldn't do anything about it in the 70's and 80's. But he will be castigated for it anyway.
Point is that economics will be a losing position for Biden. Sure he could make assurances about reducing inflation but that won't cut any ice with the people suffering paycheck to paycheck out in the heartland, as you pointed out.
This is the reason why a populist anti-Putin pro-America message could be another way forward, just as the pro-Putin anti-American propaganda is working for the Right.
