President Barack Obama said Monday at the White House that he has been in contact with the governors and local authorities in all the states expected to be affected by Hurricane Sandy, and expressed confidence in the readiness to respond to the storm.
"Please listen to what your state and local officials are saying. when they tell you to evacuate, you need to evacuate," Obama said. "Do not delay, don't pause, don't question the instructions that are being given, because this is a serious storm and could potentially have fatal consequences if people haven't acted."
Obama said he was not concerned about the effect on the election.
"This is going to take a long time to clean up. The good news is that we will clean up and we will get through this," Obama said.
