In reply to the discussion: Just an incredible speech about what and how to fight back. We need more of this. [View all]dwayneb
(1,107 posts)Yes it's a good speech. Very rational, and to a normal person this would be compelling.
But we have to understand that our enemies are not normal. They have been fully brainwashed to believe whatever is fed to them, and they certainly are not going to be watching a speech from someone who has been castigated by their handlers. Why would they listen to anything a "Democrat" or a "Liberal" might say? In fact they won't even participate in debates now and for one simple reason - subconsciously or consciously they understand that their belief system isn't based on logic and reason, and they don't care.
I didn't hear much from her about how to "fight back". As in, identifying specific actions and strategies to derail the powerful propaganda machine of the Radical Right. Words like "we won't let hate win" isn't going to cut it - all this speech does is to unite those of us who are already united.
What we have to figure out is how to exercise the propaganda machine at the same level as our enemies. And it is going to take a lot more than another speech to people that are already convinced, no matter how truthful and heartfelt.
We need a leader like Obama to lead the charge. And so far, I have not seen anyone stepping forward with those qualifications.
