My family or friends would stop by to visit or have lunch, or just say hi. But there would have been issues with them staying all day with the employee, esp in employee-only areas.
That's just weird and inappropriate. So is the sign.
Manager is probably "salaried" and short staffed. Imo, short staffing is abusive. It was at my old job

I supervised young people, I'd catch friends and such hanging around .. had to put a stop to it.

We loved the smell..like fresh bread. Teacher wasnt comfortable with class happily smelling freshly
