One problem is that Americans are under-educated and uninformed and only have a superficial knowledge of history.

So many imagine that "it can't happen here" - that Fascism and Authoritarianism can only take place somewhere far, far away in another time and place.

They really don't comprehend that "kitchen table issues" mean absolutely zero when the rule of law has been tossed in the trash and their Constitutional freedoms are a dim and distant memory.
