It seems a sort of revenant Calvinism, to imagine that ignorance and stupidity equate to lower incomes, as we are of the view, unstated of course, that the elect may be known by their depth of knowledge and intelligence. This is no more correct than the ludicrous view that the elect may be known by the favor the deity bestows on them in this life, as a prefiguration of the bliss they will know in the next.

And though it is not a comfortable thought, a good many intelligent people are dirt stupid, and proud of it into the bargain....
