waging war against fellow Democrats is a bad, bad idea. In 1937, FDR probably had the votes to add medical care to Social Security. Instead, he went out and campaigned against Democrats opposed to to his effort to expand the Supreme Court. In the end he lost the working majority to push through controversial legislation.

I believe VP Harris' trip down to WV to pressure Manchin was counter productive. Having said that, now that Roe will be gone soon enough, the party can no longer compromise on a woman's right to chose. Anti-abortion Democrats should reconsider their position and I believe Manchin will walk sooner or later. if Dems have 50 reliable votes in the Senate, at least his showboating will be over.
