Many of us are still scratching our heads about that because it sadly established that people were consciously splitting their ticket when it came to Clinton and McGinty vs Shapiro.
And this was BEFORE Act-77 was passed (became law in 2019), which not only allowed no-excuse mail-in ballots but got rid of the straight-party voting option (that was the trade-off with Democrats to give us the mail-ins). Thus this is showing you didn't have that much straight-party voting in 2016, based on that type of mixed result.
So I expect he might have also had a bunch of indie/no affiliation votes as well.
