(172,297 posts)but I also know that January 6 is very much STILL on the minds of our and others' governors and they are going to pull out all the stops for this election given that this will be the first "federal" election since 2020.
And as long as DOJ feeds the media updates on all the insurrectionist trials and (and Bannon's trial is supposed to happen in July, assuming it doesn't get delayed for some reason), then that can hopefully put a bit of a damper on things. And many of the most ardent and dedicated supporters and "instigators" of what happened January 6 (outside of the planners like Mastriano) now have criminal records, and have been "put out of commission" for the most part.
Also remember the year's worth of Q nonsense about who was supposed to "return and be installed" in office, with a (fill in the blank date that kept getting pushed back), and that still hasn't happened. So you might also have a segment of the disaffected who realized they were "had" and who have "dropped out" of this nonsense.
HOWEVER we also have state elections going on and if anything, I know those GOPers who DO come out to vote will make sure their local loons get reelected. We have a redrawn congressional (loss of 1 seat but the lines are pretty much the same as the previous map) and legislative map, so it will be interesting to see what happens with that. I know after many years, I am suddenly in a new state House district.
