73. There should have been no reason to take it down.

It should have been able to ride the storm out without incident. That leads me to believe there was some sort of other error, either in securing it, or missing something during the inspection that all the cranes in the city had prior to the storm. Which leads to the next point: consider how many other cranes, of all type and size, made it through that storm without experiencing a catastrophic failure.
