The sold their mobile home in San Jose for nearly $400k, paid off their mortgage, then paid cash ($185k) for a 3bd/2ba home in Perryton (pop. 8,000). So, in that regard, they came out ahead.

Time will tell how TX property taxes, utilities and insurance compare to their CA expenses.
