I can shoot my Marlin 1895 lever-action just about as fast as a yutz can fire an AR (assuming the yutz isn't just spraying bullets into the ceiling, that is) - with instantly replaceable magazines/"clips" it would be even more devastating on the receiving end than an AR.
And then there's the guys making 100% non-assault-weapon 50-state legal pump-action ARs
or the guys making UK-legal lever-action ARs! The quick reloads are the truly devastating feature; even a full-auto isn't much of a threat if it's limited to 3-5 rounds before you gotta stuff the shells in one by one.
