2. Some asshole here in Las Vegas has poisoned at least 13 cats with antifreeze this past week.

It was the lead story on at least one evening local newscast.

People currently in that neighborhood say that the cats were outdoors because they were left behind from home foreclosures and the like, but many of the people in that neighborhood who had their own cats would chip in and get the strays fixed and make sure they were well fed.
