You might want to read about the Station Nightclub fire that occurred on February 20, 2003. 100 people died, mainly because exits had been blocked. Also, anyone who did not get out in the first 90 seconds was doomed. That's how quickly the fire became deadly.
One huge problem I have with the way fires are presented on TV or in movies is that there's somehow plenty of time to get out. Or to go back in and rescue something. The reality is, there is essentially no time.
