...it's been a cult for much linger than he thinks. Conservative built that cult to gain and maintain power. It was built on telling people what they wanted to hear, that their animosities and resentments and bigotries were right, that they should shut out anything that tells them otherwise, and that they should turn that righteous anger against all who stood in the way of The Way Things Ought To Be: Liberals, Democrats, and especially any Republican who can't get with the program and acts more like The Enemy than like One Of Us.

All Trump did was what he always did: recognize some suckers ripe for the plucking.
