(38,824 posts)We already know a substantial number of people get long COVID (even when they have mild cases). Having had COVID increases the risk of heart consequences for at least 6 months, and diminishes brain matter, and causes brain fog for as long as we have been able to measure. We now also know that it increases the risk of getting shingles for 6 months, including in a younger cohort which is not yet eligible for Shingrix, and there is increasing consensus that the inflammatory process involved in long COVID increases the long-term risk for cancer.
As we have time to study, we will only find more long-term consequences.
Prevention of disease, not merely avoidance of death or immediate severe consquences is the only path consistent with the growing body of science.
You can return to life and still maintain a focus on disease prevention by masking indoors.
