(8,217 posts)Natural selection works on any virus, make the host sick and killing it quick is counterproductive as far as spreading wide goes.
Viruses mutate genetically, changing their characteristics, and weaker strains have a better chance of passing to other hosts.
Study of the Myxoma virus released in Australia to control rabbit plagues showed that clearly.
Different stains developed, the less severe ones became the dominant strains.
The long term outcome is that Covid will become endemic, make you sick but not kill you. Unless of course, you are in the vulnerable young/old age groups. Or have pre-existing conditions.
Wife and I are older, double vaxed and double boosted.
We never stopped wearing masks out in public.
We have trimmed down our shopping trips to the bare minimum, week to a week and a half.
So far so good.
