With respect to the third paragraph I would suggest that the process of being educated includes the ability to recognize ignorance. I am not suggested that anyone should engage in "false modesty" in order to embrace ignorance; only that one understand its source.
I recognize the ignorance, and I abhor it, but declaring an end to democracy to install myself as arbiter of who is and is not informed and who is merely "average" is not, in my view, the proper way to address ignorance. In fact, if you ask me, and perhaps you don't want to do so, arrogance can be and often is a source of ignorance.
I have spent my life working to be the dumbest person in the room as often as is possible and have profited greatly by it. I am glad that all the people in those rooms have not felt inclined to push me away in disgust or to declare I wasn't even worthy of being in it.
