The Senate is the problem, specifically Manchin and Sinema, who need to be brought around on ditching the filibuster if only for this one exception. The likelihood of that happening is slim, but Schumer brought the bill up for voting in early May of this year, and Manchin was the only Democrat to vote against it. Now that the Holy Roman Supreme Court has overturned Roe and is poised to overturn the right to birth control during its next session, Schumer needs to hold another vote. No Republican voted for it the first time, of course, and I doubt any would now. But it puts all those up for re-election this fall on the record as supporting the loss of rights for women or willing to stand up for those rights.

We all know that the only solution is to elect more Democratic Senators and hold on to the House majority this Fall. A tall order given likely Republican cheating, but perhaps this issue will motivate millions more to vote instead of excusing their lack of interest as just politics that doesn’t affect them.

Pelosi can do this... lapfog_1 Jun 2022 #1
