If attacked she will be defended by other Repubs.
Liberals have just as big of a projection problem as Republicans. We think of how we would react, our morals, and project them on to Republicans.
It is a huge mistake and puts us at a disadvantage.
Name me the worst politician out of Texas? After Cruz there are dozens of available options. Decent Republicans in the House and Senate? No one can realistically get past one hand.
So all these people get elected, the most offensive becomes the stars of the party. Reason being, ALL REPUBLICANS ARE BAD PEOPLE! Hyperbole? yes, HRC said half, actual number that seems to be consistently reported in surveys, 80%. (the number of repukes who believe the 2020 election was stolen, Obama was born in Kenya, on and on)
With that there are 20% of republicans left that might be salvageable.
This situation can be managed in two ways. Spend a great deal of effort to try to win over some of the 20%. Basically an approach that has been tried for years, most memorably by Bill Clinton. Moderate, cooperate, compromise. Issue is to get to these people you need to piss off many in the base. With that you may win 20% of 20%.
Other option is to treat those 20% as trivial. Ignore them. Attack the leaders of Republicans relentlessly, never back off. Those "reachable" 20% get upset.... too damn bad.
By our DNA, our morals, we correct our issues. So if there was a similar person to Sanders, Cruz, Cornyn, Gohmert, Biggs, DeSantis, tRump, Boebert, MTG, McConnell, McCarthy, et al, the collective decency of liberals will correct those who have lost their way.
It is what is is, but Republicans have shown us who they are, and after the past decade plus, they deserve zero respect.
