(29,981 posts)or even just being able to read the fascist writing on the wall, Dems are stupid and incompetent. I preached a sermon about the rise of US fascism in 2005. I was called alarmist by many life-long Dems: "We are the most liberal country in the world!" But when a choice came down to a liberal independent who voted with the Dems 98% of the time (a better track record than Manchin), our party refused to listen and insisted on running Clinton - a person both incredibly qualified and universally hated by half the country. Our leadership was more concerned with starry-eyed dreams of having the first woman president right after the first Black president than they were with listening to the younger, progressive wing of the party.
To be clear: this is not Dem-bashing. This is legit criticism about our party being blind to our own hubris, and dismissing the insights young people bring, especially the established Democrats who have been in power for decades. And ffs, the Boomers should know better than anyone the wisdom and power of young adulthood, since their passion in their youth led to the end of the Vietnam War and beginning/expanding civil rights for POC, women and LGBTQ+.
