Once they withdraw from the union, they are no longer subject to the laws of the union. Of course, they gain no BENEFITS from being in the union either (loss of all military bases, infrastructure subsidies, access to federal lands, social services, representation. That ALL goes away. Any businesses operating from Texas suddenly become international, and all contracts with the United States government would come to a screeching halt and would need to be renegotiated.

Personally, I'd like to see the Texiters try. I suspect that for it to be binding, it would need to be a full plebiscite, not a legislative action, and I suspect that the Texiters would get trounced at the polls (Texas is nowhere near as red as it appears on the surface).
