(5,370 posts)I think there was a consensus among senators to call for his resignation. But Gillibrand put herself and her opinions out there in a way that others did not. I don't see her doing that unless she thought it would help her career in some way. We used to watch "Full Frontal," and I remember Samantha Bee came out beaming like Christmas morning, rejoicing that Franken had been brought down and cuing to Gillibrand, who made a little speech about how women needed to be believed. Not that I disagree with the sentiment. I just wasn't sure that a hit hadn't been done on Franken. At the moment, I think one was done.
Maybe I missed it, but I never saw other senators go on comedy shows or talk shows to express their opinions. Gillibrand also gave a 60 minutes interview during which she discussed why she thought Franken needed to resign.
