I know that abortion isn't a main driver of the plot.

But, the poignancy of it is even more apparent when viewing the movie today.

There's no question that Stacy needs to get an abortion, it's a given and not even debated in the plot.
The drama is raising the money to get one.

Then, it's done, it's finished and Stacy is free to live her life as it was meant to be.
Simple, safe, no judgment. Nobody but the sperm donor, her best friend, and then her older brother (by sort-of accident) even needed to know.

How many high school girls will wonder where that freedom went?
