(10,777 posts)76. You misunderstand how Paxlovid works.
It does a great job of preventing serious outcomes, but there is often a sort of "donut-hole" effect with regard to positive tests (and sometimes with symptoms).
The President didn't get re-infected. He just had a rebound of the virus after the 5-day course of the medicine was over and he stopped taking it.
Perhaps this is a mostly harmless thing and/or perhaps they should extend the recommended dosage schedule.
But Paxlovid is still a game changer for most people.
My family all took it, and despite some of us rebounding with positive tests after the pills were gone, all of our cases were very mild and none of us appear to have any lingering after-effects.

How long after finishing paxlovid did your husband get rebound and how long does the rebound last?

He had symptoms/tested positive/started Paxlovid on July 18th, then tested negative on the 22nd.
