6. It took many years for a majority of Americans...

... to no longer believe that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

He was an absolutely horrible person, but he wasn't an ally of Muslim fundamentalists at all. It made no sense for him to be in cahoots with someone like Osama Bin Laden, who would've gleefully tried to replace Hussein with a Muslim religious nut.

But thanks to right-wing propagandists like Fox News and talk radio hosts at the time, nearly 70% of Americans polled two years after 9/11 thought Hussein was behind it.

Trump is an obvious con man and narcissist who only cares about himself, but too many Americans couldn't recognize him for what he is either. For crying out loud, his strongest supporters acted like he WAS the USA... the human embodiment of everything that's good about this country. (Similar to how Nazis worshipped Hitler in Germany, as he lead them to their own demise.)
