5. Three reasons

Precedent: By authorizing a warrant against Trump, the DOJ has set a precedent that a corrupt FBI could be used as a political weapon. This is why process has to be SPOTLESS on this one. I would not be at all surprised to see a future Republican president use this against the Democrats in the future even so, but the DOJ is being very careful that every i has a dot and every t is crossed.

Kompromat: The secrets of some very powerful people will be exposed alongside those state secrets, and when the Feds come knocking at their doors, the DOJ does not want any question that they did not follow process exactly.

Politics: Democrats are often accused of not being tough enough by Republicans, but clearly after this week that's easy enough to refute. The advantage that Democrats have, however, is that they now effectively represent the Rule of Law, which means that have to be far more sensitive to the nuances of the law as regards to everyone, not just their political opponents. Ordinarily, you can argue that having the moral high ground puts you at a disadvantage, but in this particular instance, having the moral high ground makes these actions far more devastating than they would be otherwise.
