54. That doesn't sit well with me. It reeks of complicity

to decide not to hold tfg accountable because we're worried about one of our own being sent to jail in an actual witch hunt.

I get it, the qOP is extremely corrupt and they wouldn't hesitate to manufacture trumped-up charges against an innocent Democratic president. We've seen it happen. The difference is our president won't actually be guilty of anything and their attacks and false accusations won't stick.

If trumped up charges actually did stick, that means our democracy was already lost, which would mean we wouldn't have the Democratic president to falsely charge in the first place. That's why holding these people accountable is so important.

What we do now will set the tone for what happens in the future. It will determine whether we will still have engaged civil servants who are willing to stick their necks out to do the right thing. Right now there are FBI agents who are getting death threats. Some may even die over this. We cannot let their heroism go in vain. We can't get to the point where real crimes go unpunished because that will guarantee a future where fake crimes are punished.
