Every other time that Trump committed a crime, they were able to lie or excuse their way out of it.
But this time is different. They don't know what the DOJ is holding?
They would like to think their guy would never do such a thing but they know better.
This time it will not be possible to cover up for the criminal acts. He may have stolen top secret documents? He may be guilty of espionage? They know he is capable of such acts. It would be suicide to tie your wagon to that star.
So they are in a different position than when they were defending him in the impeachments and even after he attacked our Capitol with his mob. This time, the evidence may be too strong and too damning to defend?
So, Republicans have a tough decision to make. Do they support the traitor and cross their fingers and hope nothing comes out before the election? Or do they split from him now and escape the disgrace of defending someone who betrayed our country?
If they had only done the right thing when they had the chance, they would have saved themselves and our country a lot of grief.
