and by the time he invaded, TFG had been gone for a year and those assurances were worthless.
Anything he might have learned about some of the newer weapons systems had to scare the crap out of him and he didn't need TFG for that.
No, he invaded on the basis of bogus intelligence, but it came from his own people. Now the Red Army is bogged down in a slaughterhouse and nobody can figure out how to salvage the situation so the Kremlin don't look like a bunch of idiots.
