(1,484 posts)....especially where you point out how our civilization has progressed so far as to be easily able to provide all of the things that we need, without everyone needing to work at a job. I think that the people who are motivated to work at a job should be rewarded to an extent that is greater than those who do not, but I also look forward to the day when those who choose to live closer to the earth and seek out a spiritual meaning in their existence, will be provided for as well by our society.
I am recently retired and am now surviving on the pittance that comes to me from my social security insurance. My life is hard, but still I am provided for. The joy that I have found through finally having the time to occupy my mind with the things that are of importance to me is immeasurable. My only regret is that I was not able to spend my entire life living in this manner.
I know that for some, my life would be torture. They are the ones who want and need to work while advancing their careers, as they struggle, fight and claw their way to the top of the hill. For them, the meaning in their existence is determined by how well they can compete against, or destroy all others around them who stand in their way. Let them be rewarded to a level beyond all others for the ways that they have chosen to spend their lives in the preservation and sustentation of our society.
