(68,445 posts)but I really love comedy, and with comedy, you need more than just the gist to really enjoy the --especially with a fairly cerebral comic like Chris Rock.
I know its a lot to ask hearies to keep us deafies in mind, but we do very much appreciate it when yall help us out with stuff like this!
If you are interested, I have a website where I post my articles about dealing with severe hearing impairment in a hearing culture:
I'm Listening as Hard as I Can!
http://www.deafnotdumb.homestead.com/index.html
Most of my articles are humorous, but some are serious--including one that explains while people who start to lose their hearign as they age are so reluctant to admit they are losing their hearing and so reluctant to actually wear hearing aids, even after they get them--if, of course, they can even afford to get them in the first place, which is often not at all financially possible. (Have you ever considered that those who are experiencing a progressively diminishment of their capacity to hear might suffer the same kind of grief as people who realize that their eyesight is deteriorating to the point that they might end up nearly or completely blind?)
My deaf/Hard of Hearing site is just one of my 10 public websites. The homepage to each of my sites has links to all of my other 9 sites, as well as a link to the article index for the specific site you are on. I hope some DUers will check my articles out. I have built up a worldwide readership of somewhere between 8 and 10 million readers (cool, huh?)--though a large chunk of them are visitors to my Grammar and Usage for the Non-Expert website, where I post targeted articles that deal with specific issues that even good writers sometimes feel iffy about. (I also respond to readers' questions about specific grammar or usage issues if they don't find what they need in the 100+ articles already posted on the site.)
Be warned, though: I have about 450 articles posted across my 10 sites, and I write on a very wide range of topics. Remember that old Lay's potato chip commercial tagline, "Bet you can't eat just one"? Well, I often get emails from readers who simultaneously thank me for my articles and bitterly complain that I have cost them many sleepless nights, because they can't stop surfing from one article to the next and one site to the next, [i/]heh, heh, heh (wringing hands in evil Mr. Burns style as I contemplate the success of my plan to take over the world).
If you sdo visit my sites, please let me know what you think! I have an "Email me" button at the bottom of each page, and of coruse anyone who wants to can send me a private message via my accoutn here on DU. I have sometimes goten emails from DU members who have stumbled across my site, and for some reason that always feels kind of excitiing!
