Per the BBC in 2019 (and this is just one album):
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-49892621
Since being released as a double album, London Calling has sold more than five million copies and influenced countless people.
The Clash were together for a far shorter time (the majority of the core of the band was already starting to leave by 1982/83) yet left a far larger global imprint cross-culturally and band influence-wise. They are still a vital source of inspiration for hundreds (more likely thousands) of newer bands across the planet.
The classic rock of Rush as a genre is quite moribund, has been for ages, other than, for the most part, nostalgia or commercial-driven revivals (Queen comes to mind) that come and go.
It may well have a revival, but the genres The Clash and their successor bands influenced and came from (punk, post punk, alt rock, electro, reggae, etc) have never stopped producing popular and influential bands on a global basis, dwarfing any continuance of classic rock nowadays (and for years) in terms of new (not a rehash of greatest hits) widespread output of comparable degree.
We can revisit this anytime (assuming I live to roughly to the ages of the now passed on females in my family trees' generations, which is well into their 90's for many, especially on my mum's side, the Bajans) anytime over the next 65-70 years or so.
