(48,958 posts)a local peace group brought him to speak at Indiana U. (ya, I played a role in that). It was a great talk, and we sold some of his books. During his time in Indiana we visited the site that would was being developed for an urban ed project (we both spent time as hs teachers) that I devoted years of my life to. A year or so earlier I had done a lot of research on the unfolding Enron case and the connection of its implosion to multiple schemes related to efforts to deregulate the Calif energy market and efforts to then exploit the then opened markets that led to a huge energy crisis in California (around 2001). Don't know that I could find it now, but he wrote an article on TruthOut that drew on that work (with appropriate attribution to my contribution.) That said, its been years since we were in direct contact. All of that was through the early years of DU. And I remember that work fondly. And following his writing on TruthOut.
Per his DU postings, he could be insightful, and he could be an impulsive hot head. That said, I remember him fondly, and am shocked by this news. RIP Will. May those grieving find spaces of solace and peace through the memories and record of insightful writings published and the ripples left from those ideas and memories.
