For those of us who started with DU that very first year, Will's eloquence in his writings and political observations--during that difficult time and those to follow-- were a big part of why. Will had his ups and downs here--life and its struggles can be like that. But many of us continued to read his articles at Truth Out and managed to keep up with him, albeit less closely than before.
For those of us who shared some difficult times together in the past 20-plus years, losing even one DU member from that time feels so very difficult and we've lost quite a few--including several mentioned in this thread. If William Rivers Pitt is now among those we have now lost, I send thanks to the ethers and hope that he knew he was very much valued, both before and after he ceased posting here. Likewise, I hope his mother, Raven will find peace during this unexpected and very sad loss and know that we are here for her.
Edited to add one of my favorite of his writings (poignant and uplifting):
William Rivers Pitt: The Lost, Lingering Legacy of Robert F. Kennedy
