Was Alligator Alley a possible route of escape for SW Florida in the day before Ian hit? [View all]

I hear that once Ian's path began to change, evacuation was near impossible for SW Florida. That might have been true if there was a massive evacuation, happening at once. But, for those who lived closest to Alligator Alley, was that a possible avenue of escape in the day prior to Ian hitting, before the road flooded, if it flooded at all?
