My take on it is that it is a product of hyper-masculinity. Men in these cultures are raised and socialized to repress any weakness, which they associate with femininity, and so they learn to think of themselves as superior to women and to disparage them. But it creates a kind of uneasy anxiety around sexuality, because it makes them feel vulnerable and weak. So they become conflicted and ashamed at some level about their sexuality, and compensate by becoming controlling and domineering. This can express itself in a puritanical morality, such as we see in the Taliban or Alito, in cavalier womanizing, or in the outright hostility towards women that is evident among incel groups, or in mass killers and rapists. All such behavior is basically a projection of their own self-hate, IMHO.
