I have known some very attuned elder people who would blow past much younger ones with their mental capabilities and expertise. My great grandmother, my grandfather, and Queen Elizabeth II are all examples for me--all dead now. There was no way you could have pulled anything over on any of them. Physically, my Dad worked like a dog right up until his death. He could go all day.
On the other side I can think of quite a few examples of much younger people who are neither sharp nor fit.
