(10,972 posts)I just don't know how people are affording the price increases. I remember what barely eking by was like. My groceries are up as much as 30-50% depending on what it is. (WTF has happened to chicken and coffee?!)
Crime has been ticking up where I live as well over the past two years. Mainly property crime, but there have been some violent drug-related incidents happening when they never had in the area before. My neighborhood was so furious about it, they used their clout (affluent NIMBYs) to have a new police substation installed down the street.
All you need are enough pissed off suburbanites to swing an election. How many times in how many different instances have we seen that suburbanites will win or lose an election for us? Economically squeeze them, have crime spread outward into their enclaves, and blend in some school board issues with Covid and other things, and it's a turbulent stew.
I think people in online political spaces mistake opinions for caring. A post above said 70% of Americans are pro-choice in some way. And that is probably true. But that's an opinion. Their level of caring about it is going to vary widely. And we're seeing in poll after poll that prioritizing the economy rises above abortion.
Hell, I have an opinion about a lot of things if someone actively asks me about it. Doesn't mean I care enough to do anything about it.
